Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for Honjo International Scholarship 2023 you must meet the following criteria.

  • Students who do not have Japanese citizenship.
  • The student must be enrolled by April 2023 or currently applying for a course of study at a graduate school in Japan by April 2023. If you are planning to enrol in 2023, both those already enrolled and those not yet enrolled (currently employed at the time of application for the program) are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Those entering graduate school in the fall of 2023 should apply for the 2023 program, which accepts applications from April 1 to April 30, 2023 (scheduled).
  • In principle, a student enrolled in a higher vocational school is not eligible to apply. However, a student who can submit a research project is eligible to apply.
  • The enrollment period must exceed 12 months until graduation.
  • To be eligible, a student applying for a PhD program must have started a PhD by the age of 35. A student applying for a master’s program must have started a master’s course by the age of 30 (no exceptions).
  • The student must have a strong intention to serve his country as a future career plan.
  • The student must have a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill and participate in programs organized by the Foundation and Network as alumni.
  • The student should be able to conduct daily conversations in Japanese. Interviews are conducted in Japanese (without exception).
