The 2023 Henson Leadership Institute in the United States—formerly known as the Henson Summer Institute for Leadership and International Cooperation—is an exciting international leadership program, generically named Fred J. Henson funded. Hanson Summer Institute (HSI) has been recognized as one of the top summer scholarships in the world. A fully funded summer exchange program will take place in the United States in July 2023.
Hanson Leadership Institute Education aims to provide a “leadership toolbox” for students to resolve conflicts and build a better future for their respective countries and the world. For three weeks every July, young men and women in conflict zones and on the campus of the University of San Diego in the United States come together for this life-changing event. He joins a family of Henson’s alumni who keep in close contact through the media and various social networking sites.
The main goal of the Hansen Leadership Institute is to create an international community of young scholars who will use their summer experiences as a foundation for learning shared practical skills and learning to build lasting friendships and creating a more peaceful future.
The HLI 2023 program includes practical training in and outside the classroom with the latest techniques in conflict resolution, mediation and dialogue, and cross-cultural management. Classroom instruction is complemented by local excursions to San Diego’s historical attractions and cultural events, including visits to Balboa Park, the Sea of the World, the Fourth of July Parade, harbour cruises, and the US-Mexico border.

Eligibility Criteria:
To attend Hanson Summer Institute, candidates must meet the following requirements.
NON – U.S. STUDENTS: (Students from zones of conflict and/or social strife)
- 2-year college/university with an undergraduate or graduate degree student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development, or related fields.
- Students must be between 20 and 25 years of age at the start of the programme.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities outside the classroom in a community, country or region.
- Ask an academic advisor to confirm the applicant’s English proficiency in writing.
- Obtain a valid international passport with a US visa if required prior to the start of the program
- Preference is given to those who have never travelled to the US.
U.S. STUDENTS: (Students from any university in the United States)
- 2-year college/university with an undergraduate or graduate degree student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development, or related fields.
- Students must be between 20 and 25 years of age at the start of the programme.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities outside the classroom in a community, country or region.
